Image Count

Status:
Under Review
by Murali_V Level 1 on ‎02-08-2015 08:48

This is a use case that has practical use.  In manufacturing plants they get a truck loads of raw material that need to be counted manually. The current process is predominantly manual, time consuming and also inaacurate. As as example let me say a truck load of pipes. As simple use case if I take that all pipes of the same diameter, then given a sample image, it will be great take a photo and have the number of pipes counted. In fact with pipes of different diameter, it will be still great to have the number of pipes of different diameter counted. May be when trucks enter a manufacturing facility / plant if photos can be a automatically clicked and the count displayed on a small screen it will be all the more useful.

As a use case I would like to try this.  Would any API allow adding sample images to the database?

Thanks,

Murali

IoD on HP Public Cloud

Status:

by uday Level 3 on ‎02-10-2015 01:54

I was told that IoD is installed on HP Public cloud. HP Public cloud is globally deployed in 2 data centers Virginia and the other in Nevada both are part of United States.

Doesn't IoD services response affect when customers from other part (non-US) of the world are consuming these services over net ?

In these situations, how does IoD ensures the SLA of any service response ?

Haven OnDemand is now deployed in Europe, and has capabilities to extend to a number of globally distributed geographies as required by customers.

Shape detection

by Vasu Level 2 on ‎05-19-2014 02:53
  • Similar to OCR, provide shape detection (both handwritten as well as printed). Sub-features include detection of the line thickness, shape color, shape fill, confidence score of match. If no shape is identified, then either extract the shape as-is (along with making the background transparent) or creating a free form line drawing to approximately fit the shape. Output could be in SVG format

Hi, I have been working with the ImageServer component which is behind the OCR API for a while now. For OCR it offers the capability to split the response by line, word or character. I have several ideas where this information would be really helpful - and I'm probably not the only one. So could you expose those options to the API? Almost as important: Please expose the confidence score ImageServers analyze function on the API! Cheers, Sebastian

Sebastian,

Thank you for providing your feedback.

As part of our August and September releases we are planning a number of refinements to our OCR functionality and are certainly looking at how we can introduce the functionality you mention. We’ll be sure to update you further as we get closer to the August release.

Summarization of Content

Status:
Under Review
by Quantubly New Member on ‎07-01-2015 08:42

Whilst ConceptExtraction gathers he occurance of words within a text, it doesn't highlight the more valuable sentances which is the first step to natural summarization of a blob of wordy data.

Would a feature be added that splits word data into sentances. Then for each sentance which has the occurance of words that would appear in the ConceptExtraction API a weighting could be given. It could be as simple as a score equivalent to the number of times a word appears in the document, and that number applied to each word in the sentance. For example;

These are the number of times each word occurs from the ConceptExtraction API;

Joe = 10

Cristoph = 12

Meg = 15

And a sentance in the doucment was;

Joe and Cristoph think Meg is tip top

Then that sentance would get a score of 37

This would allow me to pull, potentially, the more important sentances from a chunck of data.

List Stored Objects

Status:

by khunshan Level 3 on ‎10-14-2014 06:18

Stored Object is lost. Reference is all you have. You can post an Image or PDF. But you cannot retrieve it back to view/show. You get a reference as a result. Use the reference is what all a develoepr can do. But to show/view also the Image or PDF along the processed information from OCR or Entity Extraction, there is no way.

In the future we'd like to provide more complete storage functionality - we'll let you know when this comes available!

configuring IDOL

Status:
Completed
by uday Level 3 on ‎01-20-2015 06:07

Sometimes we need to configure IDOL config file to handle termcache, indexcache on onpremise IDOL to improve the performance of the query response time. For such scenarios, configuring IDOL to be exposed as a service will help before creating Index and loading the data into IDOL.

Status:

Uday,

This is the reason we've introduced the concept of flavors when you create a text index.  The flavors allow us to load different configurations for different usage scenarios.

If you have a scenario that you think isn't covered by the existing flavors to let us know more so we can assist.

data level autherization

Status:

by uday Level 3 on ‎01-20-2015 06:10

There are sharepoints in enterprise where the data in sharepoints should only be accessed by specific roles defined enterprise active directory. Today OmniGroupServer is being used along with onpremise IDOL for data autherization.

Any idea whether such type of requirement would be offered as a service in IoD ?

Status:

The User/Role etc functionality that is slowly being added to IDOL OnDemand will eventually cater for user access and security mapping.

Many IDOL on premise functionalities will be added to IDOL OnDemand over the next year.

For the entity extraction there are many categories where non-English countries are supported (e.g. phone numbers or license plates). But why not non-English names??

Would be great if those could be included at least for major languages such as German, French or Spanish.

Taxonomy as service

Status:
Completed
by uday Level 3 on ‎01-20-2015 03:19

Today there is no service to define my own taxonomy and publish it to IDOL. We need a service to define and publish my own taxonomy before we call Categorize Document service.

Any idea when this service would be available in IoD ?

Status:

Hi Uday,

Thanks for taking the time to post.

The Createtextindex API allows you to create an Categorization Flavor Text Index into which you can add documents representing cateogories with , conceptual, booleanrestriction and fieldtextrestriction components to then categorize documents against with the categorizedocument API.

In the future we'll plan to add more abstracted APIs for the creation and maintenance of taxonomies, but these are still in the planning stage.

I hope this helps and let's you get started.  Do let us know if you have any more questions.

Vasu,

Thank you for taking the time to give your feedback.

We are currently planning a number of refinements to OCR; at this time they are focused around printed text. Handwritten text identification that is of sufficient quality is at the cutting edge of OCR technology and therefore we currently plan to wait for this technology to evolve perform introducing into IDOL OnDemand.

Why Ask For dissertation writing?

by johnworne Level 1 on ‎02-03-2017 01:26

We all know that great essay writing requires a smart approach. Yes, maybe practice does indeed makes perfect. But with essay writing, how you practice is far more important than the simple activity of daily repetitive writing. Without a smart plan in place aimed at propelling your skills and prowess forward, then adjust your expectations of the kind of writer you desire to become in the future which is "half-baked, not great". That is a reality. The sooner you end up realizing that no matter how hard working you are, or no matter how many novel ideas you are planning to share with the world, to make you the next essay expert writer; if you do not have the ingredients that separates great writers from amateurs, then brace yourself for the excruciating reality you will eventually face as you walk round the writing industry. To avoid these harsh realities, our writers can provide the needed  we'll take the essay writing potential that you now have and turn it into something worthy of marvel and appreciation.

Censoring inappropriate content

Status:
Completed
by Murali_V Level 1 on ‎02-08-2015 08:48

When tech savvy children unrestrictidly accessing tablets, laptops, websites, youtube videos there is every chance that innappropriate content making its way to the screen either through popups or through accidental mouse clicks. Although some sites require the people to declare their age, this is a still a manual declaration that can be cheated.   If every such content can be passed through Idol and if age verification can be automated by taking the picture of the person browsing, content security can be enhanced.

A larger application of the concept is in film/movie certification. If an initial scan of the film and highlights of the inappropriate content (words, scenes) can be tagged for a manual re-verification later, the aspect of bias in the manual certification process can be reduced if not eliminated. The inappropriateness of content by country/region would drive the certification logic.

Does Idol support such a use case? I would like to try this.

Thanks,

Murali

Hi Murali,

With Haven OnDemand we aim for it to be easy for developers to build data-rich applications such as the one you outline by giving easy access to technology that can help analyze both structured and unstructured information.

We'd encourage you to try out APIs such as Image Recognition and Face Detection as well as APIs such as Concept Extraction and Document Categorization to help analysis content.

After much trial & error, I managed to get custom flavor of text index to accept some of my custom fields.

It sure would be nice if */*_PARAM and similar worked.   Yes wildcards are a little dangerous in the wrong hands, but it's also a hassle to input each singularly.

To top it off, it seems that today you can only change fields upon text creation.  This is also pretty annoying, especially when you have to input each one individually.   A personalized field template - my custom would be useful in lieu of supporting add/subtracting fields.

Plus, there doesn't appear to be anyway to see field configuration until data with those fields is indexed.  I get this is normal IDOL behavior, but it's pretty annoying to not see what is intended to happen before it happens.   This is especially so since the input form for custom fields seems picky in unclear ways.

It would be good profit if HP made a new product that uses holographic technology with its own API, similar to Google Glass. It would have a design like a headband, except with more sleeker controls and reinforced glass so it wouldn't break from dropping. A finger recognization camera to be able to track your finger like Xbox 360 Kinect, and an actual "camera" that can take 1080p to 480p rrecordings and 1080x768 resolution pictures and adjustable resolution and a universal micro USB charger and thunderbolt adapter. That kind of specs and thry'll be in for a heck of a joyride. People would go crazy for that beautiful piece.

I was trying out some photos that had the HSBC example logo.  It matched ok, but it also matched 2 other logs seemingly incorrectly.   I'm guessing that the scores are relatively low for seemingly bad matches.

http://www.panoramio.com/photo/56859617

To help tell which match is which, color coding the boxes to the responsedata would be nice.   The coordinates help some, but that requires some translation.

This same issue applies to face detection - it's not that easy to tell which face's data goes with which face.

Today in on-premise IDOL, we do not have a mechanism to separate few IDOL instances for read and few for only writing. This way i can isolate incoming search queries from the indexation processes. This is achievable in most of the NoSQL databases like Mongodb.

It would be good to have data replication mechanism among IDOL instances to achieve this capability. This way we can have separate IDOL instances only for READ and only for WRITE

Uday,

One of the aims of Haven OnDemand is to abstract away the underlying complex of the technology.

Our aim is to ensure that you do not need to consider the interaction between to the querytextindex and addtotextindex APIs in Haven OnDemand.

ClusterPartition function for IOD

Status:
Planned
by Level 4 John Level 4 on ‎10-01-2014 03:29

I would like to suggest adding the existing 'ClusterPartition' IDOL function into IDOL On Demand. ClusterPartition allows a user to quickly cluster all the results of their query.

As an analyst I would like to be able to quickly see how the results from my queries can be grouped into dofferent clusters based on their content. This enables me to discover unknown unknowns rather than relying on predefined notions of what is in the index.

From the IDOL 10.7 Help:

ClusterPartition

Clusters the results of a specified query into a specified number of clusters.

This type of clustering creates the specified number of clusters, and places all documents into a cluster. This method is faster than the ClusterSnapshot method.

Example

http://12.3.4.56:9000/action=ClusterPartition&DREQuery=Finance&NumResults=500&NumClusters=5

This action uses port 9000 to cluster the results of a query for the term Finance into five clusters. It returns 500 results for the query, and clusters all these results.

Parameters

Parameter Description Required

ActionIDA string to use to identify an ACI action.
DREQueryThe query that you want to cluster results for.Yes
EncryptResponseEncrypt the IDOL Server output.
FileNameThe file that IDOL Server writes output to.
ForceTemplateRefreshForces IDOL Server to load the template from disk.
NumClustersThe number of clusters to create.Yes
NumResultsThe number of query results to return and cluster.Yes
OutputWrites IDOL Server output to a file.
ResponseFormatThe format of the action output.
TemplateThe template to use for the action output.
TemplateParamCSVsA list of variables to use for the specified template.
UsernameThe name of the user performing the action.

Thanks John,

Cluster Partitioning is a feature we are looking to add in a future release of IDOL OnDemand.   We will be sure to update you when it is ready for use.

Sentiment analysis - fine tuning.

Status:

by Essen Level 2 on ‎09-12-2014 08:32

The sentiment analysis works as best as the dictionary supports. But this will never be the case in real time application, particularly with the social media. It might also differ from one geography to the other. How about opening up keyword mapping to the specific geographic community, controlled by a moderator. This would end up with a very rich and accurate analysis of sentiments, and can be targeted at varying geographies as well.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your suggestion.

We are looking at option to introduce customisation to the Sentiment Analysis APis, but have not finalised this plans at present.

by uday Level 3 on ‎04-08-2015 05:29

Hi,

Today we are using Object Store API to store the documents and uses the reference in IoD api's.

Once i store file in object store there is no way to delete the file.

Please let me know what other operations i can do on the file stored in object store.

It would be great if you provide us the methods to manage the file in object store like update and delete of the file

Status:

Hi uday,

Additional functionality around the store object API are planned for the long term future.

We'll be sure to update you as these plans progress.
