After much trial & error, I managed to get custom flavor of text index to accept some of my custom fields.

It sure would be nice if */*_PARAM and similar worked.   Yes wildcards are a little dangerous in the wrong hands, but it's also a hassle to input each singularly.

To top it off, it seems that today you can only change fields upon text creation.  This is also pretty annoying, especially when you have to input each one individually.   A personalized field template - my custom would be useful in lieu of supporting add/subtracting fields.

Plus, there doesn't appear to be anyway to see field configuration until data with those fields is indexed.  I get this is normal IDOL behavior, but it's pretty annoying to not see what is intended to happen before it happens.   This is especially so since the input form for custom fields seems picky in unclear ways.

Batch Operations Support in API

Status:
Completed
by romin New Member on ‎05-20-2014 04:08

It would be great to have batch support in several APIs. For e.g. the Language Detection and Sentiment Analysis APIs could do with accepting a batch of request data, instead of making a call to it everytime ?

Ofcourse, there would be some sort of limits to it, but would be great to speed up things.

Status:
Completed

Hi Romin & Frederico,

The Sentiment Analysis API now accepts multiple inputs so you can batch your requests.

Do be sure to let us know if you have any further ideas!

Image Count

by Murali_V Level 1 on ‎02-08-2015 08:25 - last edited on ‎02-08-2015 08:38 by Level 5

This is a use case that has practical use.  In manufacturing plants they get a truck loads of raw material that need to be counted manually. The current process is predominantly manual, time consuming and also inaacurate. As as example let me say a truck load of pipes. As simple use case if I take that all pipes of the same diameter, then given a sample image, it will be great take a photo and have the number of pipes counted. In fact with pipes of different diameter, it will be still great to have the number of pipes of different diameter counted. May be when trucks enter a manufacturing facility / plant if photos can be a automatically clicked and the count displayed on a small screen it will be all the more useful.

As a use case I would like to try this.  Would any API allow adding sample images to the database?

Thanks,

Murali

@Murali_V

Thank you for taking time to provide your feedback. The particular use case you outline is likely to be hard to implement. We do however have a number of exciting updates planned that will allow developers to provide training for our Image Recognition techonology.

Just a thought coming out of untoward incidents in the airline industry.

There was a crowd-sourced initiative recently to figure out every inch of the global map on recognizing images to come to a location at last. I beleive this was done primarily out of the google maps satellites.

If we do come up with a way to access these image pixels(of course would need some forerunner program that can feed the image recognition api's - which I tried to access, but was not successful with), it might help narrow down a location or a single pixel in the map, and save time - it will speak a lot for the community at large.

Hi Essen,

We have plans to open up our image technology for users to be able to training their own datasets, while the exactly scenario you outline may not be possible, it will allow your users to come up with new and interesting ways to use our image recognition technology.

We'll be sure to keep you updated when it is available.

Shape detection

  • Similar to OCR, provide shape detection (both handwritten as well as printed). Sub-features include detection of the line thickness, shape color, shape fill, confidence score of match. If no shape is identified, then either extract the shape as-is (along with making the background transparent) or creating a free form line drawing to approximately fit the shape. Output could be in SVG format

QMS as service

Status:
Completed
by uday Level 3 on ‎01-20-2015 02:56

Today IDOL QMS server provides capabilities to talk to agentstore to get the defined promotions before it goes fetches the data from content.

We need to have few services like publishing promotions as service as well as invoking these promotions as part of the QueryTextIndex service

Status:

Hi Uday,

A range of query manipulation functionality is now available in Haven OnDemand.  Be sure to check out the Create Query Profile API and the Query Manipulation Text Index Flavor.

Get Content API to return summary

Status:

by arshad01 Level 4 on ‎10-12-2014 06:27

Hi

It would be great if the Get Content API can also return document summary like how Find Similar API does.

I have a workaround for this which I have given in one of my forum post (https://community.idolondemand.com/t5/Forum/Document-summary-with-GetContent-API/td-p/1074)

Thanks

HP IDOl OnDemand libraries

by Monu New Member on ‎07-27-2014 12:01

Hi,

Would love see some of the naive starandad librarbies based on the language to support the api calls. For example if a ruby developer finds a HPIDOL gem, then he could directly work on the project with out struggeling with the api.

Thanks.

Like a guy talked of Ruby.

A dedicated iOS SDK either close source or open source. What if we send calls like Sentiment Analysis locally? I know it will change the idea of "cloud". But the idea of "handheld phones" is not bad either.

Hi, I have been working with the ImageServer component which is behind the OCR API for a while now. For OCR it offers the capability to split the response by line, word or character. I have several ideas where this information would be really helpful - and I'm probably not the only one. So could you expose those options to the API? Almost as important: Please expose the confidence score ImageServers analyze function on the API! Cheers, Sebastian

Sebastian,

Thank you for providing your feedback.

As part of our August and September releases we are planning a number of refinements to our OCR functionality and are certainly looking at how we can introduce the functionality you mention. We’ll be sure to update you further as we get closer to the August release.

IoD on HP Public Cloud

Status:

by uday Level 3 on ‎02-10-2015 01:54

I was told that IoD is installed on HP Public cloud. HP Public cloud is globally deployed in 2 data centers Virginia and the other in Nevada both are part of United States.

Doesn't IoD services response affect when customers from other part (non-US) of the world are consuming these services over net ?

In these situations, how does IoD ensures the SLA of any service response ?

Haven OnDemand is now deployed in Europe, and has capabilities to extend to a number of globally distributed geographies as required by customers.

It would be useful if the field names for things like DRETITLE and DREDATE and such were configured appropriately for title, date and maybe even reference fields with maybe a special text index flavor template for this use case.

It would make trying out HOD so much easier when one is coming from IDOL on-premise.   On-premise CFS is doing lots of data manipulation where there appears to be ZERO equivalent of CFS in HOD right now.

ClusterPartition function for IOD

Status:
Planned
by Level 4 John Level 4 on ‎10-01-2014 03:29

I would like to suggest adding the existing 'ClusterPartition' IDOL function into IDOL On Demand. ClusterPartition allows a user to quickly cluster all the results of their query.

As an analyst I would like to be able to quickly see how the results from my queries can be grouped into dofferent clusters based on their content. This enables me to discover unknown unknowns rather than relying on predefined notions of what is in the index.

From the IDOL 10.7 Help:

ClusterPartition

Clusters the results of a specified query into a specified number of clusters.

This type of clustering creates the specified number of clusters, and places all documents into a cluster. This method is faster than the ClusterSnapshot method.

Example

http://12.3.4.56:9000/action=ClusterPartition&DREQuery=Finance&NumResults=500&NumClusters=5

This action uses port 9000 to cluster the results of a query for the term Finance into five clusters. It returns 500 results for the query, and clusters all these results.

Parameters

Parameter Description Required

ActionIDA string to use to identify an ACI action.
DREQueryThe query that you want to cluster results for.Yes
EncryptResponseEncrypt the IDOL Server output.
FileNameThe file that IDOL Server writes output to.
ForceTemplateRefreshForces IDOL Server to load the template from disk.
NumClustersThe number of clusters to create.Yes
NumResultsThe number of query results to return and cluster.Yes
OutputWrites IDOL Server output to a file.
ResponseFormatThe format of the action output.
TemplateThe template to use for the action output.
TemplateParamCSVsA list of variables to use for the specified template.
UsernameThe name of the user performing the action.

Thanks John,

Cluster Partitioning is a feature we are looking to add in a future release of IDOL OnDemand.   We will be sure to update you when it is ready for use.

Sentiment analysis - fine tuning.

Status:
Under Review
by Essen Level 2 on ‎09-12-2014 08:32

The sentiment analysis works as best as the dictionary supports. But this will never be the case in real time application, particularly with the social media. It might also differ from one geography to the other. How about opening up keyword mapping to the specific geographic community, controlled by a moderator. This would end up with a very rich and accurate analysis of sentiments, and can be targeted at varying geographies as well.

Essen,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your suggestion.

We are looking at option to introduce customisation to the Sentiment Analysis APis, but have not finalised this plans at present.

We'll be sure to update you when we have more details.

Detect face expressions

Status:
Under Review
by Monty New Member on ‎09-03-2014 08:50

An extension that could be interesting for the Face Detection API would be to detect face expressions, and return it along with the age when "additional" is true.

Something that could be defined like:

"expression": {
    "type": "string",
    "enum": [
        "happy",
        "sad",
        "angry",
... "neutral" ] }

and would look like the attached picture (I wanted to put it inline, but it seems that it is not allowed.)

In this line, there are a couple of things that could be added to the Face Detection API that could make it more interesting (at least for me):

  • Position/size of face features: eyes, nose, mouth,...
  • Some "basic" actions: smiling, winking, blinking,...

Practice brain exercises

by Alexandra New Member on ‎03-29-2017 11:22

The human brain is a muscle which needs to be in shape just like your other parts of the body require. What do youdo to keep the other parts in shape? You exercise, you hit the gym to build muscle and keep it running for the dissertation proposal help so they don’t cramp.

Similarly, your brain needs to exercise and one way to achieve this is by playing engaging games such as Sudoku, crosswords and the likes thereof. There are a multitude of other apps for Android and iOS where you can download brain stimulants (exercises/games) to keep that supercomputer running.

Once you have your brain functioning in control you can remember things for your test/exam and perform better when writing your exam. Why? Your brain is not tired, it is not at rest rather it is active and helps you recall what you have prepared and studied when the going gets tough (read test).

How to Get the Right dissertation writing

Status:

by johnworne Level 1 on ‎02-03-2017 01:17

You have been told that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. And when it comes to writing, I mean great writing, then you realize that the first thing to know is that not every or any step you take will bring you closer to the apotheosis of your writing journey. Many novice writers become frustrated and disappointed—they quit because of the delayed reward that comes with good writing. Patience is important and so is being smart.

Could you look at adding the following to the entity extraction API:

Stock ticker symbols for companies

More abbreviations or aliases for companies (e.g. "Coke" for Coca-Cola Company)

I can think of other categories along increasingly narrow use cases (brand names, medical terms, etc.).  Would it be possible to load custom grammars into this API?
